Our mom recently moved into the Retreat with fear and reservation. It has only been just over a week and our mom is so happy with both the people and the place. The staff are sincere, thoughtful, flexible and fun! The food is amazing. The residents are welcoming and engaging. Everyone here is truly a gift. This is a real community.

Writing on behalf of my mother:

Sunny Vista has been a blessing to my mother and to me in so many ways! The nurses and CNAs are committed to providing the best care possible (and they do!). In addition to these exceptional team members who interact with my mother on a daily basis, she is also taken care of by an entire "care team." I meet quarterly with the following departments: Nursing, Social Services, Life Enrichment, Rehab/Physical Therapy, and Dining Services, where we cover "anything and everything" as it relates to her care and her experiences there. These meetings have been extremely valuable and worthwhile.

Additionally, the Admissions Director has been extremely supportive to us (even visiting my mother when she was hospitalized), and the Business Office Manager has been amazing and very helpful as we have navigated through some complex items. The Social Services Director is fantastic and is quick to return calls and answer any questions that I may have. The Executive Director is also very approachable and personable.

From the moment I walk through the door, I am greeted with a warm smile and I always feel so welcomed. The decor throughout is warm and very tasteful and the building is kept so clean. It truly feels like a home. My mother really enjoys the food; it is healthy and nutritious. She has a beautiful private room with a wall of windows, and she has her own private (large) bathroom.

She is so lucky to be able to call Sunny Vista Living Center "home." I feel so blessed to have her living there.

When my 84 year old mom had to go into rehabilitation after an unexpected fall i was very worried my mom has always hated hospitals and been very scared of facilities. and I am not the best at organization or paperwork.

Sunnyvista was amazing they walked me through things, helped me with paperwork, they got my mom from barely able to sit up to walking in two week, It is clean good lighting, high ceilings, wide halls, feels like a high end hotel, people are not cooped in thier rooms, the food is top quality, my mom is a very picky eater with underweight issues, but she loved the food.

The only issue is medicare only covers 20 days but they also helped me find and apply to other medicaid pending facilities If the place we move my mom if a fraction as good as sunny vista i wil be happy. (if not ill definitely try to move my mom back once medicaid get approved)

Sunny vista deserves a much higher rating than I've seen it have. My thanks to Pearl who was my main contact and the rest of the top notch staff at sunny vista.

Sitting in fecal matter, isolation, lack of care

Sunny Vista’s rehab facility, located at 2445 E Cache La Poudre was an extremely poor experience for our family.

We found our mother in soiled undergarments several times. A private caregiver we hired indicated that when she arrived it appeared that she may have been sitting in her own feces for hours. Our mother is prone to UTI infections. Not ensuring a patient is kept in a sanitary condition can increase the likelihood of septic shock, e. coli bacteremia, and can cause ventricul tachycardia (a type of abnormal heart rhythm) and can result in death. To allow a resident with a history of UTI infections to be left in solid undergarments, exposing them to the above risks is unconscionable.

We would also find our mother in a wheelchair with the tires locked, in a corner pointed towards a table and corner of the room. She would be sleeping in her wheelchair and her chin would be touching her chest. We had to instruct Sunny Vista to move her to a bed when she is sleeping, hoping to prevent neck injuries.

There was another resident in her room screaming for 45 minutes for someone to help her, to bring her water. A nurse would then go in and yell at her for screaming for 45 minutes for help.

We hired private caregivers to be with my mother throughout the night after she had surgery related to a nasty, and unexplainable, fall she took at their sister facility, The Retreat at Sunny Vista. This resulted in their staff expecting our caregivers to provide services that were supposed to be provided by Sunny Vista. We would be asked when our “sitters” are coming in so that our private caregivers could then check her undergarments or get her into bed.

We were still paying for room, meals, and caregiver services for the room at their sister facility across the street even though my mother was no longer staying there. The rehab facility at Sunny Vista is covered by Medicare or Tricare for my mother to be in rehab. So essentially, they are billing my mom for caregiver, meals, and rooms for two different facilities, while we are bringing in private caregivers to ensure my mom had adequate care.

I had reached out to Steve Downs several times seeking a discount as they were receiving fees for my mom for two different facilities. He initially told me there was a form, but blew me off for a while. I was then informed that the regional director denied my request. I asked for a meeting with the regional director, but after that I was unable to reach Mr. Downs via phone and text, I had to go into the facility several times and ask if he was available.

He did eventually meet with me, but merely used stalling and deflection techniques to distract from my request for an adjustment to the bill. He indicated he would check into this, and check into that, but certainly indicating that no adjustment to the bill would be made regardless. It was very insulting to sit in his office while he played these games, not to mention the disrespect and loss of dignity for my mom while risking her health and wellness.

My husband, 82, went into Sunny Vista 6 weeks ago flat on his back after being in hospital for a month. With the extraordinary care from the staff there, Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, speech therapy, the CNAs and the remarkable nursing staff, dietitians, and housekeepers, he’s now home and 98% independent again! They did a fantastic job! As the Terminator says, “He’s baaack!!!” And only because of the extraordinary care he received at Sunny Vista Living Center! They are seriously underrated: it’s a beautiful setting with lovely views and very attractive pictures and paintings on the walls. Individual rooms with their own bathrooms, a large generous wardrobe for clothing, a bedside table and a comfortable hospital style bed. Good food from the kitchen and a delightful staff. We couldn’t ask for more!

I give this place a 5 Star this facility is extremely gorgeous and CLEAN!!! Everyone there is so super friendly and take really good care of my mother with all her health issues. My poor mom has been in and out of so many rehab places that never really cared about the individual and just do their job. Here I see them go above and beyond even to make her food selections for her meals. If your looking for a rehab place this is the place for sure!!!!

We were recently able to get my Mother-in-law into The Retreat at Sunny Vista Memory Care. It took a few weeks for her to adjust but now she loves it. She plays bingo twice a week, has been to Flying W Ranch and Cripple Creek and has made many friends. The best part are the staff. Faith, Valencia, Kiki, etc, etc are all amazing and caring. I highly recommend if you have a loved one who needs specialized care.
