I attempted to enroll at a mental health/drug addiction facility but was instantly rejected. The reason given was that I required multiple diagnoses for recovery and mental health, and my insurance provider, United Health, is out of network. Despite being willing to pay the out-of-network difference, they did not provide any further explanation for the rejection. This is unfortunate, as the facility focuses on healing arts and music, which I was interested in. I hope they will reconsider their administration processes to be more inclusive and fair to all individuals, regardless of their financial background or status in the music industry. Mental health is a significant issue, and everyone should have access to necessary support without facing unfair stereotypes and rejections.

I spent 120 days at Recovery Unplugged and I am forever grateful for my time. The counselors and alumni coordinators genuinely care about your sobriety and mental health and they do set you up for success.

However, several of the staff members (techs mostly) are there for the wrong reasons. **Dawn specifically was known for flirting with the male clients and saying innappropriate comments to everyone. She made my time at residential pretty hard & she was not a fan of pretty girls or anyone she considered to be a “threat...” which as a staff member that was pretty embarrassing and unprofessional for her. She lied on several occasions to make herself look like she was doing her job, violated HIPAA by discussing clients information throughout RU and was extremely unprofessional to say the least. That woman does not deserve to have a job and most of the clients will agree.

The cooks were great, groups were well organized and basketball/the gym was a plus. I will say, for Recovery Unplugged, being a music based program, there were not many opportunities for people to play their music. There were certain hours we could use the instruments and the techs change the rules for those daily. The counselors really spend their time making us feel loved and heard and without them I would not be almost 6 months sober. Again, much unnecessary drama with the staff and at times I felt like my sobriety was not their top priority but aside from the techs, the program really was incredible and I owe my sobriety to RU.

Honestly, my favorite part of the entire recovery process. The food is fantastic. The facility is clean and spacious yet cozy. The staff is *chef's kiss*. 10/10 I loved it. I don't want to go back, but if I have to I'm going through RU.

So the staff is fantastic, the food is top notch. The facility itself is decent - it's an old nursing home that was built in the late 60s going by property records. It's a little run down, but it has solid bones.

But their COVID protocol blows. If someone tests positive, they either move their roommate into another room (thus, spreading the love, so to speak), or ship you off to a different location that they have. Yes, I went to rehab and came home with COVID. The upside is since I was close to graduating, I was able to just go home (with a certificate of completion) when I got sick. And oh god, did I get sick. Several days in the hospital, almost wound up on a ventilator.

I had met my out of pocket for the year before going - but I'm now getting bills from every NP and Dr that had any contact with me, along with medication bills from CVS (I never use CVS, I guess that's who they use?). I know damn well every med was covered by my insurance except for vitamins, but I was assured that whatever my insurance paid was "all inclusive" and I'd see zero cost, due to being over my out of pocket for the year.

I also wound up going into bad withdrawal from benzos while there - they'd assumed I'd been detoxed from them before arriving, wasn't the case (to be fair, I thought my detox at another facility had also handled that). Took 4 days and multiple drug tests to finally get any relief (the benzo I'm prescribed doesn't show up on most pee-in-a-cup tests).

Their program is great, I especially love that they're not trying to ram 12 step down your throat. You have a reasonable amount of freedom, though you won't have access to your phone unless your counselor is present (this is typical), and making phone calls is downright difficult (need your counselor, aside from a "safe call" to let your family know you've arrived.. and you only get that if you didn't transfer from their own detox center). Their protocols when someone is sick, not so much. And nobody could ever tell me what I would wind up paying - I still have no idea what I'm going to owe, despite multiple phone calls.

All of the griping aside, all of the techs were great, same with counselors, ops manager (Vinny), nursing, and especially the chefs (omg the food was always AMAZING).

They do have a solid program, everyone is generally pretty great to deal with.. just hope you don't run into any complications once you're on the residential side. Or wind up with COVID. At least they took me home the same day I tested positive, but I got stuck with the bill for the test (they took me to Ally ER instead of doing something easy like a $10 rapid test, so I have a bill for a few thousand that my insurance didn't cover). They also (accidentally) froze my insulin - they covered the copay for replacement, but once I got out, I wound up having to pay out of pocket for my next refill since it was considered too early. My copay is $30, out of pocket is $600 for ~2 weeks. Add the bill from Ally for my COVID test, and another refill of insulin once I got home, and... OW MY WALLET. Between the bills that have started rolling in, and my current financial situation, it's tempting to file chapter 7. Especially since I couldn't get access to my phone to pay bills easily.

I went here in November 2016 and am still sober to this day. Recovery Unplugged saved my life. The staff is incredible and supportive! I was able to get the therapy I needed, learn about my addiction, and make life-long friends in a comfortable and safe environment. As a musician this place is exactly what I needed to get back to what I love, and find peace in music. You don’t even need to be a musician to really connect to the experience. I would not have wanted to go anywhere else. I continue to stay connected with RU through the amazing alumni family. I recommend this treatment center more than I could ever put into words.

I hate to say that I've been to a lot of rehabs...but I have. Recovery Unplugged in Austin,TX is one of the best treatment experiences I've had. Let's face it, going to treatment is a difficult decision. The staff at RU is amazing and caring and truly made those 1st few days as comfortable as possible. I felt that the nursing staff was highly attentive to my needs. The techs are very supportive and understanding. The rooms are very nice and meals excellent. It's a very creative and nurturing environment! Having music therapy integrated was very helpful for me.
