So I was a customer(I can’t call myself a patient because I was reminded too many times that I was a customer first and foremost) for 5 years. I used to battle opiate addiction. At first I thought the clinic was a God send because I had a legal means to control my cravings, avoid withdrawls, and work on building some stability in my life. My first counselor was very ill equipped. His name was Ricardo and one day I went to the clinic after missing 4 days. I made a comment about how bad I felt and he said “well if it’s day 4 of not having anything you should be feeling fine.” I couldn’t believe someone working with people on methadone doesn’t know about the withdrawal process.
The first couple years I paid out of pocket with no help from insurance, and I can’t tell you how many times I dug through my car looking for change because I was short by maybe $1. $15 a day is a lot of money for anyone, and I would ask them if there was any was they could help me and let me pay the difference the next day, but they never would. You used to be able to charge. First It was from 10 am-12, then it was 10 am to 11, then they got rid of it all together. Thankfully when I became pregnant from and SA charging was still an option because there’s no way I could’ve dealt with going through withdrawal after going through something so traumatic. I definitely would’ve gone back to heroin had charging not been an option. I feel so sad for anyone that would end up pregnant that goes to the clinic today. You would think that a place who’s supposedly about helping people and has the brinx truck come twice a day would be able to let people charge for at least a day or two, but the more time goes by, the more lifelines I see them take away from people.
I never let them take me over 60 mg because I know how long it can take to taper down. I actually managed to taper all the way down to 13 mg, I went over 2 years without a dirty drug test, and got my take homes. They took my insurance so the last 2 or 3 years roughly I didn’t have to pay anything. I gave my life to God and found my calling working in home health care/hospice. Things were good for a while. One day I got called for a call back. I had to be at work the next day at 5:30 am. The clinic opens at 5 and I asked them to please work with me somehow because there’s no way I could go there, and make it to work on time. I do one on one patient care so I can’t just leave and come back. They told me they used to have exceptions for people that had to work early but they got rid of it because people were abusing it. Why not make it harder for people to abuse it? Yet another life line they took away. This was really the beginning of the end for me because not long after losing my take homes, my car broke down. I had to miss several days because there’s no way I could take the bus to the clinic and make it to work on time. After 30 days I tried to get them back and my counselor advocated for me, explained my situation(I was only at 10 mg at the time) and they didn’t care… they said no because of my attendance which is stupid because I was only missing days due to my lack of transportation and the fact that I was missing days only proved that I would’ve benefited from getting them back. But as long as they’re getting paid, they don’t care… you’re just another number.
The next issue and real nail in the coffin was losing my insurance. After the pandemic ended, a lot of people were asked to prove income to see if they still qualified and I technically made too much. I lost my insurance July 1st and July 6th is when they noticed at the clinic. I was hoping I’d at least get by for a couple weeks u til they noticed because my savings were wiped out after fixing to my car twice. My new insurance wouldn’t go into affect until august 1st, and I asked them if there’s anyway they could work with me, maybe letting me charge for two weeks or figuring out some kind of plan to help me get by until then, but nothing… Again I was reminded that I’m a customer, not a patient.

NKY Med Clinic has been a saving grace for me. I truly never thought I would make it to this point in my life. Thanks to the help I’ve received from this program, I’m getting my life back. I’ve had spectacular counselors including Liza and Ed, both of which have always gone above and beyond to be compassionate and provide me the best possible care. The nurses, while being under immense pressure at times, are always kind, patient and caring. Seeing them each morning has become something I truly look forward to. Overall the love and support I’ve received from EVERYONE at NKY Med has been a cornerstone to my recovery. I’m eternally grateful for all the work the staff here does.

I've attended this place that last 4 years. It's okay if you just want to get methadone and not really seek help. You definitely need to find other help along with this place because they don't provide enough care, mentally. It's all about dosing. The counselors, nurse, Drs are decent but the front desk staff is VERY rude. They play on their phone while there's people waiting to check in. They use foul language and gossip about coworkers and they're not quiet about it AT ALL. They curse in front of staff, clients, and kids with no regard. It's not professional at all. And all too often, there are clients that can barely even keep their eyes open. It's definitely not a positive environment for those who are serious about sobriety.

This is a great place to go to get help with opiates. You have a counselor, and many doctors your able to talk to about a treatment plan. They are usually very quick about getting you in and out on dosing days. They may put you on a temporary hold to speak with your counselor or you have to perform a urine test. As long as you do what your supposed to do it will go smoothly. I suggest if you have a job try to go in as early as possible it just in case. This place has had my back more than once.

The biggest problem I got is I got to be at work at 6:00 am I drive 45 min to clinic and then 45 min to the job. I get to the clinic at 445 and there is 10 pajama warring people in line by the time I get in there must be 30 non workers hiding in the car because when I walk in the board is full and there’s 10 people in there it takes me 20 to 30 min to get out by now I’m late for work bs. I have lost 3 very good jobs because this people that don’t have jobs should not be allowed to dose till at lest 9/10:00 o’clock that lets the workers get through with enough time to get to work. Us workers need to stand up together about this I miss 2 to 3 times a week after I drive 45 mins out the way. Let’s make something happen about this if it doesn’t change I’m going to have to find a new clinic or go back to the pain clinic and I don’t want that

I transferred in from a clinic in Cincinnati, Ohio. They are a bit more relaxed and the atmosphere is not really monitored. My counselor Davon has been wonderful to work with and seems to know me personally and is interested in what my goals are. MAT is a blessing to me and my family I couldn't have stayed clean and sober for 7 years without it. NKY Meds is just like any other clinic, you get out of it what you put into it and so far I'm loving this place ❤

I have been at NKY med clinic for six years now. The first year it opened was a complete mess!! but as of right now I owe that place my life , had awesome counselors and horrible ones but I can truly say it has saved my LIFE!!!! Only one thing is that I have been clean for so long now their should be extra privileges for patients for the ones that are doing it the correct way..... For the ones still in active addiction need more intense help !!! Maybe from people that have walked a mile in the patient's shoes.... Over all I appreciate every staff member there .....
