Proper pain management is seriously lacking at this facility!! Either it is a computer issue; data not transferring over properly within a patients file coming from the hospital to this facility; pain medication not being properly logged so the facility is unaware of what proper meds to give; the phones not working properly so nurses are not informed that the patient has been buzzing them through the front desk and by using the call button for over an hour; inaccurately recording progress of a patient within the files; or ignoring a patients request/call for immediate assistance for medication or even with help getting from a chair to a bed because the pain has become excruciating (shattered pelvis and hips).... the excuses are endless.

I was baffled at the nurses when they removed the dressing from a large and infected area on the lower back, and THEN left the room to gather the supplies needed to treat, clean, and dress the wound properly. Just left the wound and patient exposed for OVER 20 minutes!! They had this poor patient laying on broken bones (ribs, hips, pelvis) propped up on his side literally gripping onto the side of the bed crying in pain, shaking because it was so agonizing for him, all while they ran around looking for the supplies. Are you kidding me!?! Didn't even offer him any pain medication before doing this to him. Why have three people in the room to "help" and not utilize them properly!? Proper pain management. Proper time management. Understanding the patients needs. Proper review of the file to determine what would be needed to treat infections, wounds, draining tubes... I mean, did all of that go out the window!? Why wasn't one person removing the bandages from the wrapping and handing them to the person treating the wounds... I don't understand... the patients pain and comfort wasn't even a thought to them. The family even begged them "can you please move faster, he's in so much pain, can you open these up ahead of time so that this moves quicker for him?" I swear to you, they went even slower...
Choose a different profession if that is your attitude !!

OP and PT are great. But normal every day staff needs to seriously reflect on their positions and the reason they are there to begin with.

I stayed at Inova Fairfax Inpatient Rehab in the early fall of 2023 with an incomplete spinal cord injury (unable to move the majority of my body.) While under their care I improved significantly and now months later I continue to improve. My family and I have the greatest appreciation and admiration for the hard work, professionalism, diligence and compassion of the entire Inova team. This facility has the latest technology and the entire staff truly cares about the patient’s progress. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who wants to maximize their recovery potential.

I am giving this place a 5 star because the the staff here are simply amazing. Especially a tech named Julie! Julie is absolutely amazing. My partner is a patient here and there are days when she has her ups and downs and when she’s feeling down Julie always know how to put a smile on her face. Julie is very patient with her and take time to understand her(she has trouble speaking). Julie has an amazing personality. She laughs, dance and sometimes sing to my significant other and it puts a smile on her face each and every time. My partner doesn’t know how to say many words but last night she said “I want Julie” nice and clear. We wish we could pack Julie up and put her in our suitcase and take her home with us. We will miss Julie 🙁

My mom just spent 2 weeks here after a spinal fusion surgery and I couldn’t have been more pleased. Beautiful new building, clean, spacious and state of the art room. Majority of nurses, techs and therapists were incredibly skilled and kind (the only one tech out of a dozen I met was off, the one from the night we checked in was hands off and unkind) but the rest were so patient, loving and hard working. Even the food was outstanding which we had no expectations of. I honestly felt my mom was in a 5 star hotel with 5 star service. They don’t mess around with scheduling a ton of physical, occupational and speech therapies that filled her days. They got her up early, bathed her, dressed her and had her out start a healthy routine. They had a psychologist even check in on h we well being and just be there to chat. I will honestly miss them and the facility. Because this is an acute rehab my mom has to move to subacute after 2 weeks and cried so hard when we transferred her. Thank you INOVA for taking excellent care of my mother.

The Inova Fairfax Hosptial Inpatient Rehabilitation has been absoloutley amazing for my mother-in-law. The patient care is unlike anything we have ever seen. This facility is equipped with top notch staff whom are well trained and extremley caring and professional. My mom has had fantasic care from the doctors (Dr. Chong, Dr. Yakub), the physical theraparist (Elizabeth,Afton) the nurses, the techs and the case worker (Shirinia) to the folks assisting her through the entire process. These names are just a few, but everyone she has mentioned has been nothing by patient and work with her through this tiresome and difficult process. She has a long road to recovery, but the staff at the rehab center are helping her get on the right path. We greatly recommend this facility especially with these individuals assisting my mother along the way. Thank you Fairfax Rehab!

I wish I could give this place 0 stars, but the 1 star is really because of the 2 physical therapists who were decent human beings, unlike all the other staff that attended to my family member. After SPINAL SURGERY, she's had several instances of nurses neglecting her painkillers for hours at a time, meals being taken away before she even finished her food, and a therapist who insinuated that she was faking dizzy spells to postpone discharge. SHE HAD TO CALL US TO SAY SHE'S IN PAIN AND NEEDS HELP. No one at the hospital seemed to understand that my family member has no one at her home to supervise her, as she lives alone in her apartment, and we cannot be there 24/7 due to LIFE. For some reason, they act like we are solely responsible for finding a caregiver and her getting discharged unsafely is OUR problem. FCPS health department says it's the hospital's job to make sure the discharge is safe. I sound like a broken record no matter who I talk to -- doctors, PT, OT, managers, nurses -- when I state that she has no support at home right now and we are in the process of getting a caregiver. And no, we can't just hire private caregivers -- HER ENTIRE SURGERY WAS COVERED BY MEDICAID!!! We can't afford that, but they don't care. The entire team treats her like a burden that they need to get rid of ASAP. They even changed from saying she needs 24/7 supervision to occasional check-ins during the day, in the span of days. I don't know if it's because my family member doesn't speak English, so they need an interpreter all the time, but it is palpable that they don't give two sh*ts about her.
